One of the my favorite things to do in Beirut is to go and hang around in its gorgeous downtown. I don’t do pubs or night clubs, but I do a lot of walking so this fits perfect for me. The streets and buildings are rebuilt from scratch after long civil war. Entire downtown looks brand new and very expensive. Critics may say it doesn’t look authentic anymore and is a bit like Disneyland, but I will never agree. Here is a shot I took with my phone camera and enhanced the color of the sky a little in Photoshop (well you know, the sky in Beirut always looks great, but my phone camera just can’t handle it!). Muhammad Al Amin Mosque is visible in the background.
The picture is taken while standing on Abu Hamed Karameh street facing Najmeh square. Muhammad Al Amin Mosque is still visible from this location, although this doesn’t give a correct impression about its size and beauty. Oh well, next time!
